Hi!I can recommend some bands from Slovakia and Czech Republic. The firs one is called Lunatic Gods and it is probably our best metal band, also highly appreciated abroad. Their current record Ante Portas is in Slovak but earlier records are in English. They decided to sing in Slovak after the death of their former singer. Here is an example of their music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d45hVJWPrgY and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0Z_zU4Rb0A&feature=related
ReplyDeleteAnother one is called Depresy. I think they are worth to check out. The design of their record Morph is amazing, it is in the shape of pentagram! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2M8T8Aubdc&feature=related
When we talk about Czech metal it is my duty to present Silent Stream of Godless Elegy. They are under the Season of Mist what is a huge success for band from this region. Their earlier record are in English, the last one is completely in Czech but all song are translated to English in their booklet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5A5d8ZWeWQ
These are my favorite bands, but if you'll be interested I can suggest others which belong to the most interesting rock and metal bands in this region.
Thank you!!! I will check out those bands!!! And, please, of course I'm interested in hearing/reading your suggestions about other bands of thay area (as long as you have time to waste on me...)!!!
ReplyDeleteHi, so here is a list of some other bands which are quite well-known in former Czechoslovakia. I´ll start with Czech bands.
ReplyDeleteSeven - Actually, this is the first Czech band ever that signed a contract with Nuclear Blast. The contract is signed for 50 years. Yeah, that´s right, 50 years! Producer boards of their new album “Freedom Call” was Viktor Smolski, the guitarist of Rage. Seven´s first albums are completely instrumental, but the last two are with vocals, lyrics are in English. An excellent guitarist Honza “Kirk” Behunek was a guest star in Doro’s “25 Anniversary” concert in Dusseldorf.

Sebastien – power metal. Their current album Tears of White Roses was recorded in a studio of Ronald Grapow (Masterplan)in Slovakia (Ronald lives in our country). Mike DiMeo (exsinger of Masterplan) collaborated with the band and you can hear him sing in some song.

Salamandra – power metal. Christening of their album Time To Change took place at Czech festival Masters of Rock with assistance of Sabaton. Salamandra also wrote an anthem for this festival (the biggest metal festival in Central and Eastern Europe).

Dymitry – the first Czech band performing at Wacken. They try to attract audience with masks which they wear during their performances (sth like Lordi). But some people say that their music sucks and the only reason why fans of metal music talk about them is “the masks”.

Fernando Ribeiro´s favorite Czech bands are Root and Master´s Hammer. He even collaborated with a frontman of Root Big Boss and you can hear him in some Moonspell´ songs. Now I´m not 100% sure but I think that Fernando´s voice appeared in some Root´s music.

On the other hand, Master´s Hammer were inspiration for a lot of others European metal bands (e.g. Celtic Frost)

Slovak rock and metal scene in not as developed as the Czech one. We focus more on foreign artists and consider our musicians to be more amateur and boring. We´re not a proud nation, we think that everything what is from Slovakia is bad (expect out gold generation of ice-hockey players). There even isn´t a true metal festival! Therefore we travel across whole Europe (mostly Czech Republic, Austria, Poland and Germany) to see some metal. But still, I think there are few interesting Slovak bands (e.g.Lucatic Gods, Depresy, Galadriel,I.M.T. Smile…) which could also attract rock and metal fans from abroad. Good Luck!
